iPhone from DoCoMo?
While DoCoMo’s recently been doing some damage control after its president declared on a news program that the iPhone was “heavy” and that it didn’t really feel any urgency about adding more touchscreen phones to its lineup (apparently, his comments on weight related to the first-gen model), the official position remains that they’re adjusting pricing plans to counter it and continuing to negotiate with Apple.
However, a rumour has it that DoCoMo may today have briefed staff in its stores to the effect that the iPhone is coming — perhaps later in the year, perhaps relatively close on Softbank’s heels.
It wouldn’t be much of a surprise, if true; the kind of people most interested in the iPhone are, after all, the kind of high spenders that DoCoMo has and Softbank wants.
Itchy DoCoMo subscribers may want to wait and see what happens for now; presumably DoCoMo would want to at least make an announcement before Softbank’s July 11 launch to take the wind out of its rival’s sails.
