What price an iPhone? Now we know
Softbank just dropped the pricing plans for the iPhone. Upshot is that JPY23,000 gets you an 8GB model, while the 16GB version will be JPY34,560. This being Softbank, of course, things aren’t that simple, and there are installment payments and all sorts of stuff to factor in. But it looks like the upshot is:
8GB phone: With a two-year lock-in, it looks like you pay JPY960 a month for the phone and JPY7,280 for unlimited data and free calls to other Softbank phones between 1 and 9pm.
16GB: Same as above but the phone is JPY1,440.
Visual voicemail and a couple of other things will cost you about another JPY500 per month.
This is all a bit better than the leaks we’ve seen, which suggested that JPY11,000 or so a month was likely.
You still have to buy one from a Softbank shop, as per the setup globally (buy and activate on the spot, or else).
