After trashing the state of Japanese cellphones the other day I was reflecting on the bullish statement by DoCoMo’s Kiyoyuki Tsujimura at the launch of its new handset range that “among these 23 models there will definitely be a cellphone you want”. And while I read this and thought cynically that it ain’t about the number, it does seem, finally, like they’ve managed to address their old problem of having a lot of great features but never managing to get them all into one phone; the N905i and P905i have HSDPA and GSM, GPS, OneSeg digital TV, 5-megapixel cameras, and probably aroma-augmented unisex Bluetooth teledildonic attachments if you can be bothered to read to the bottom of the spec sheet. The only things that baffle me are the lack of better text input (my constant gripe) and the inexplicable use of WMA and SD Audio instead of straight MP3. The combination of GPS and a good camera, though, might just persuade me to buy a second phone.
