GCALDaemon - Sync Google Calendar with Apple iCal →
Until the GUI’d SpinningSync comes out, this looks to be the only option for two-way syncing between iCal and Google Calendar. A pity it’s so fiddly; creating appts and contacts in Mail.app is now so easy that I want to use iCal again, but GC on the go.

Do not access if you have work to do. Flash game that allows you to design and fly planes made of paper, metal, styrofoam, etc. through a stunt course. Highly addictive.

Another temptation in the compact synth module arena, the Access Virus TI Snow. Have been wanting to try one of the family for a while because they show up as VST plugins in your DAW software.

Fascinating, and “Beelzebufo” is a tremendous name. The article’s appeal, unusually, is undiminished for the fact that I originally misread “prehistoric” in its title as “prosthetic”.

Feed fart
Sorry, I appear to have had an imported feed scramble on me (specifically, I ended up pulling in the Last.fm tracks of a Skid Row fan…shudder), resulting in about 40 posts with an even lower informational content than is the norm around here. Normal service now resumes.

I heard this first on the radio last night and was baffled. The Emperor is bemoaning the fact that he and the Empress haven’t had much chance to see their granddaughter Aiko, and despite promises by the Crown Prince to the effect that he would try and bring her over more often, that apparently hasn’t happened. This has prompted a formal statement by the head of the Imperial Household...

Foreign-national school kids exempted from... →
Curious article in the Asahi Shimbun this morning about an exemption to be granted to high-school students who are foreign nationals from having their fingerprints/photos collected when they re-enter Japan — but only if they’re returning from a school trip overseas. The rationale apparently is that they may not have told their classmates that they’re not Japanese, and...
Logic and reason
My copy of Logic Studio just arrived, and while I haven’t installed it yet, I will say two things about it. One, heaviest damn piece of software ever. The box is big enough for my cat to sit in (regrettably, I can’t get him to stay still long enough for a photo) and contains two manuals that in size are Remembrance of Things Past with a side order of something long by Norman Mailer....

Via Best Free Documentaries: someone has had the great goodness to put the whole of BBC documentary I, Samurai up on Google Video. My old mucker Patrick Dickinson, who directed it, is delighted at the publicity and I’m therefore happy to in turn give it a plug.

MacBook Air
Until about ten minutes ago I had a MacBook Air on order. Two things made me cancel: one, I have a business trip that the ship date isn’t going to catch, and two, I can’t help thinking how much better value a MacBook Pro is for the minor extra outlay. Sure, the extra weight of the Pro will mean a certain amount of pain when I do need to schlep it around, but I’m not much of a...
